Students and faculty members from different colleges and universities attended the webinar. Besides, many environmentalists and industrialists from all over India also attended the webinar, which was organized under the convenorship of Prof Prikshat Singh Manhas, Rector, Udhampur Campus.
Dr Shyam Sharan Garg, General Manager & Head of the Department, Environment & Social Management Unit (ESMU), Multilateral Funding & Procurement, Rajbhasha & MR for ISO 9001 in IIFCL, Govt of India, was the resource person for the webinar. He discussed the concept how SDGs are different from ESGs and the components of both?
Dr Garg explained that among the many things that the COVID-19 pandemic has fuelled, conscious consumerism is one of the biggest, and a large number of companies have responded by announcing net-zero or carbon-neutral commitments by pledging to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and investing in climate action.
Further, Dr Garg also mentioned that ESG can be very easily implemented by the local Government. With growing alertness and demand for climate action amongst consumers, adopting Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) measures is now more important than ever for businesses of all sizes to thrive in the present and also future-proof themselves, added Dr Garg and explained what ESG is; why ESG’s importance is now growing; whether ESG is for businesses of all sizes; how your company can benefit from ESG; and how you should start working on your business’ ESG policies that Govt has initiated.
