JAMMU, Apr 12: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and Mitsubishi Electric India Private Limited, a global manufacturer of Electrical & Electronic equipment, have collaborated to set up an advanced Industrial Robotics Lab and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition setup at MIET.
The Mitsubishi Electric Robotics Lab is an addition to the already existing Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation Lab having products like Programmable Logic Controllers, Human Machine Interface, Variable Frequency Drive and Servo Motors established at MIET in April 2018.
The Mitsubishi Electric India sponsored laboratory was inaugurated by Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, in the presence of Vikram Mattoo, General Manager, Factory Automation Center, Mitsubishi Electric India ; Manoj Gupta, Senior Manager, Mitsubishi Electric India and Prof Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET.
The Robotics lab is well-equipped with a high-end industry specific robotics training kit, comprising of Robot Arm, Robot CPU, Teaching Box, Power Supply Unit, Programmable Logic Controllers Base Unit, and Programmable Logic Controller. In addition to Robotics Lab, Mitsubishi Electric India has also provided Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition setup with Plant engineering software. The Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation Lab is the first and exclusive industry-driven center of excellence in the State of J&K in the domain of Factory Automation. The Factory Automation Lab facility at MIET, since last 12 months, has been able to train more than 250 students, 20 faculty members, 10 industry professionals and develop 5 innovative projects using Programmable Logic Controllers and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. One of the teams from Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, MIET, finished in the top 35 teams across the country in the Mitsubishi Electric Cup held in February 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj Dhar spoke at length about the significance of collaboration of academia and industry in bridging the wide skill gap in the country. He further emphasized on the key role played by MIET in keeping the state flag flying high at various national and international technical competitions.
Vikram Mattoo , spoke about the products, solutions and CSR initiatives of the company. “I am sure that this will help the students to develop world-class automation skills which are expected to be in great demand, soon,” he added.
Prof Ankur Gupta reiterated the commitment of the MIET management in providing world-class learning experiences and industry exposure to the students.
