JAMMU, Feb 5: Applicants for the post of Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University, are likely to be short listed tomorrow as the Search Committee looking for suitable candidates, is meeting tomorrow at New Delhi.
The three-member Search panel, will meet under the chairmanship of Dr Arun Nagvekar, former Vice-Chancellor of the Pune University and Ex-Chairman of the UGC, for scrutiny of the candidates, who have applied for the top post, official sources informed the Excelsior.
During the scheduled meeting, JU Registrar will present a summary of all applicants before the Committee members for likely short listing of the candidates on the basis of qualification and experience, sources added.
More than two dozen Professors of Jammu University are among the around 100 applicants, who have applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor, sources said and added that around 20 names are likely to be short listed in the tomorrow’s scheduled meeting of Search Committee.
The three-member Search Committee, headed by Dr Arun Nagvekar, comprises of Prof B B Bhattacharya, former Vice-Chancellor of Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) and senior IAS officer R P Aggarwal, who has retired as Secretary in the Human Resource Development Ministry.
It may be recalled that consequent upon sudden resignation of Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar as then Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University in October last, Prof R D Sharma was given the temporary charge of VC, pursuant to the approval accorded by Governor-cum-Chancellor.
Looking for the new Vice-Chancellor, the Governor had also constituted a Search Committee, which met on November 20 last following which applications from eligible candidates were invited.
After scrutiny of the candidates’ resume, the Search Committee will shortlist the applicants and conduct their interview. On the basis of interview and other criteria, a final panel of three-five candidates will be submitted to the Governor for a final selection as the Vice-Chancellor, sources explained.
