JAMMU, May 1: Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma today visited the Department of Chemistry and interacted with the faculty members.
Prof Sharma also took a round of the Department and visited Departmental Library where he directed that visitor register should be maintained to evaluate the reading habits amongst the students.
The VC also directed the HoD to auction, under the norms, the junk material lying at various corners of the Department. Later, he had a round of the newly constructed multi-storeyed building of the Department, which is housing the laboratories of modern facilities.
Prof Renu Sachar, Head, Department of Chemistry informed the VC that the Department is UGC-SAP-PURSE-FIST funded and besides involved in quality teaching. Facilities like Thermal Analyzer, CHNS Analyzer, FTIR Spectrophotometer, Faraday Magnetic System, Crytogenic System for measurement of superconductivity, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Mettler Hotstage microscope, microwave synthesizer, Cyclic Voltameter, Flash Chromatograph, Ion Chromatography, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Magnetic Susceptibility Balance, Digital Density Meter, TGA, NMR etc are available in the Department for carrying out research, she added.
The HoD also requested the Vice Chancellor that there was an urgent need for the creation of more teaching positions.
Prof Meena Sharma, Prof S K Pandey, Prof R K Bamezai, Prof K K Kapoor, Prof H N Sheikh, Prof Satya Paul, Dr G D Bajju, Dr D S Sambyal, Dr Monika Gupta, Jai Kumar Sharma, Ashawni Kumar and Amit Sharma were also present on the occasion.
