JAMMU, May 31: Under the guidance and patronage of Chief Patron of State Judicial Academy, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar, Chief Justice, J&K High Court, and Committee of Judges, State Judicial Academy Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, Chairman and Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Member, Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy today conducted one day refresher course on “Examination of Witnesses and Moot court including order writing with regard to examination of witnesses” for Sub-Judges and Munsiffs of district Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi of Jammu province at Jammu.
Justice (Retd.) J.P. Singh was the Resource person. The programme was conducted by Pawan Dev Kotwal, Director, State Judicial Academy. In his introductory remarks, Director, State Judicial Academy welcomed the Resource person and Judicial Officers and deliberated on the need for such refresher programmes for the Judicial officers.
Justice J.P. Singh dealt with the topic of the programme and exhaustively explained the provisions. By his long and varied experience he enlightened the participants regarding ways and means which they can adopt while dealing with cases and reminded the officers about their powers, duties and responsibilities in dispensation of justice.
Resource person by way of moot court evaluated legal issues and tried to inculcate the participating judicial officers the practical side of practicing law. He gave the participants an hypothetical fact scenario that raises one or more legal issues and the chosen officers were assigned different positions on the issues to be argued on both sides. In this way, He practically demonstrated as how to tackle oral arguments which demand organization and the ability to think quickly and respond convincingly during the trial of cases and how to decide the cases expeditiously.
The participating officers gave vent to their difficulties which they face day in and day out while dealing with cases with the Resource persons and sought clarifications of several aspects of application of law. Resource person patiently heard their difficulties and suggested remedial measures to their satisfaction.
While proposing vote of thanks, Kotwal, Director, State Judicial Academy expressed his thanks to the judicial officers for their active participation during the programme. Yahaya Firdous Ahanger, Sub-Judge attached with State Judicial Academy, Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Deputy Registrar, State Judicial Academy and Jagdish Raj, Permanent Faculty Member was also present on the occasion.
