JAMMU, Dec 22: State Judicial Academy today organized oath ceremony and lecture on ‘Professional Ethics and Conduct’ for newly enrolled Advocates of Jammu province.
Proceedings were conducted by Abdul Rashid Malik, Director, J&K State Judicial Academy, who administered oath to all of them.
Speaking on the occasion Malik highlighted the principles of judicial ethics and qualities of a good lawyer.
“Lawyers speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. The marginalised sections of the society including women, children, old-aged, disabled, poor and indigent look towards the lawyers for redressal of their grievances. A lawyer is a bridge between justice and access to justice”, he said.
He emphasised that lawyers must be orally articulate, have good written communication skills and also be good listeners, in order to argue convincingly in the courtroom before judges. “Similarly, being able to research quickly and effectively is essential to understanding your clients, their needs, and to preparing legal strategies. Preparing legal strategies requires absorbing and comprehending large amounts of information, then distilling them down into something manageable and useful”, he told the newly enrolled Advocates.
The proceedings concluded with distribution of certificates of enrolment amongst the lawyers.
