JAMMU, Aug 11: Member Parliament (MP), Jugal Kishore along with senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today conducted tour of rain affected areas in Sanjay Nagar, Nanak Nagar and Gandhi Nagar and took stock of people’s issues there.
Vinay Gupta, district BJP president; Raj Kumar, Chairman JMC; Lucky Puri, Corporator, Narinder Koki, Kulbhushan Khajuria, Joint Commissioner Health and Sanitation, Chief Transport Officer and other staff members of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) also accompanied the senior BJP leaders.
After taking stock of the reasons for the areas getting inundated by rain water and interacting with the affected people, MP Jugal Kishore observed that Nallahs and coverage of drains are causing blockage in smooth outflow of rain water. He said that the main reason for the blockage is that people have resorted to encroachment in some areas adjoining the Nallahs and drains. However he stated that a proper strategy should be worked out to address this issue once for all so that people don’t face hardships during the rainy season.
The former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta said that the heavy rains since past midnight has led to huge volumes of rain water causing extensive damage to several houses and huge loss to many households having made all their household items redundant. Assuring the residents especially the affected families of addressing their issues on top priority, he directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) authorities to immediately reconstruct the low level culverts as it is here that gushing rain gets deviated towards the adjacent houses and structures thus causing extensive damage to properties.
He also asked the authorities to prepare a fool proof plan so that no room is left for the rain water to go into the houses of people in these areas.
Meanwhile both the senior BJP leaders advised the people to make disposal of garbage as per the system put in place by the JMC which collects the same at every doorstep. He said that blockage of Nallahs and drains is also caused by certain people throwing garbage carelessly in or around the drains and nallahs which ultimately finds way into these causing blockage.
