The great Jammu is well known as the City of Temples. It has seen many great men and women . There were kings and emperors known for their heroism and conquests. There have been great thinkers and scientists, saints and sages who have helped people to live a civilized life.
Social reformers have also appeared from time to time. Risking their own lives these great men have selflessly fought against several social evils. They have taken the lead in putting an end to many cruel and outmoded customs in the society . Among them is Jugal Mahajan born on 25th January 1938 at Udhampur to a renowed businessman Nand Ram. He did his schooling upto 10th class from Udhampur and passed his B.Sc from G.G.M Science College Jammu. Then he also qualified for K.P.S in 1964, got married to Krishna Mahajan in 1967. He became the president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry five times upto 1984. He is a founder member of Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jammu. He also became the chairman of Federation and Industries and Commerce Jammu . He was also appointed as Director SIDCO and SICOP and JKTDC for terms of 3 years each. He dedicated Mahajan Sabha Building Shalamar Road to the community which is also used for all purpose, till now.
Jugal Mahajan, a respectable pillar in the Jammu society remained executive member of Red Cross Society Jammu and remained member of State Executive of Red cross under the Chairmanship of his Governor of J&K. He is a strong willed, principled man who impacted many lives over several decades, also known as Mahajan Sahib. Mr Mahajan is a highly empathetic person with steadfast principles of integrity and honesty. Many people would come to him for help and advice on political conflicts, financial help and sometimes even just on day to day issues. His compassion and generosity could be seen in attending to these people no matter what time of day or night. Also remained member of Northern Railway User committee, Telephone Advisory committee J&K state 11 times , president of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust and made lot of efforts under the guidance and chairmanship of sole trustee ( Dr. Karan Singh) in getting the buildings of Gulab Bhawan and Karan Bhawan built which are at the moment huge source of income for the trust. He also remained member of Rajya Sainik Board (under the Chairmanship of the Governor of J&K State), at present he is Chairman of Brickklin Manufacturers Association Jammu Province Also remained member of Police Advisory Committee & Member Price Committee from 1972 to 2003. He remained council member of Dharmarth Trust of J&K State for 26 years . Mr Mahajan remained Chief warden Civil Defense for whole Jammu Province and also member of court of Choudhary Devi Lal University Sirsa Haryana.
He was conferred prestigious President’s Civil Defense Medal on February 2005. He also remained Treasurer of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference from Jammu Province for 15 years. Grace of Almighty God and no ill will is the secret of his good health and cheerful young looks. He actively is motivating younger generation to shun away bad habits and do whatever they can for the promotion of society. He is a careful person who loves reading and working. A very dynamic leader of business and Mahajan Committee for which he has done a lot. Recipient of many honours and awards from different organization for various deeds. He even at this age is very active and devotes maximum time for business, politics, Mahajan Birdari and social related activities. Public of the region prays to God for his good health and long life . The dedicated and devoted social personalities like Jugal Mahajan are always and asset to the society. We should seek lesson from their passion which is a must to excel in any field. They are our guiding force.
