Damage caused to paddy crop due to hailstorm

JAMMU, Oct 23: Member Parliament (MP) from Jammu-Poonch constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma along with former minister Sham Lal Choudhary, president MC RS Pura, Satpal and others visited village Dablehar, RS Pura, Suchetgarh, Sai and adjoining hail-storm hit areas to assess the damages caused to crops.
Member Parliament interacted with farmers and took a stock of damage to their crops. Farmers informed him that they were already leading their life from hand to mouth due to present situations raised by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and now hailstorm ruined their crops. They are now in very difficult situation and bound to seek help from the administration.
They told that this is the time when they have to get efficient rates for their yields but untimely rain & hail storms caused them a great losses. Jugal Kishore assured the farmers that best possible efforts would be done to support farmers and every help would be provided to cope up with the current losses.
Mula Ram, JKPCC vice president and Hari Singh Chib, president DCC Jammu Rural expressed concern over the loss of paddy crops and property in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir, asking administration to immediately engage men and machinery in assess the losses.
In a statement issued today, Mula Ram, Hari Singh and Uday Bhanu Chib (President JKPYC) said that recent rains have damaged the standing crops and the government must depute teams to assess the losses immediately and apparently compensate the affecting farmers.
They expressed grave concern over the loss of crop production of farmers and other public property at several places due to the incessant rains. They appealed to the LG administration to issue directions to the concerned authorities to assess the loss and provide immediate compensation to farmers who have lost their production besides compensating other affected people.
Apni Party Provincial president, Jammu and former minister, Manjit Singh today conducted a tour of hailstorm affected villages in Samba district and demanded compensation from the Govt, for those whose crop and vegetable have been damaged due to the heavy rain/hailstorm.
The former Minister visited Partap Singh Pora, Dug, Jeda etc., and met the hailstorm affected farmers. “The blowing of strong winds, rainfall and hailstorm in Samba has damaged standing crops and vegetables causing massive financial loss to them,” he said.
Interacting with the farmers Singh said that the losses are huge and could have also caused similar damages in other districts of Jammu province. He demanded that the Govt should constitute teams in respective districts to make assessment of the losses suffered by the farmers and accordingly, appropriate compensation should be given to the farmers.
Former Minister and senior BJP leader, Ch Sukhnandan while expressing serious concern over the damages suffered by the farmers from Marh and other border areas of Jammu and Samba due to hail-storm urged the LG Administration to provide adequate compensation to the victims without any more delay.
Former Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ch Vikram Randhawa today visited various villages and took stock of the damages occurred to the standing crops due to hailstorm and torrential rains which lashed heavily in plains of Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion Randhawa said that the hailstorm has damaged the standing paddy and crops of farmers badly and demanded immediate compensation of the same. He said that the farmers are the worst sufferers of COVID-19 pandemic with no other source of earning. He further said that as now the crops were ready and the farmers were preparing to harvest the hailstorm has damaged it totally. He said BJP is committed for the welfare of the farmers and assured them that the issue will be taken up with the administration so that they are compensated for their losses.
DDC Chairman Jammu, Bharat Bhushan also expressed serious concern over the losses being suffered by farmers due to heavy rain and hail-storm and demanded compensation for the same. He urged the concerned authorities to conduct survey of the damaged crops and work out compensation in favour of affected farmers.
BJP spokesperson, Abhinav Sharma (Adv) has also demanded compensation in favour of famers who have suffered heavy damages on account of crops due to heavy rain and hail-storm in Jammu area.
Ch Manmohan Singh, president All India Jat Maha Sabha and former Mayor sought adequate compensation as per the market rates of the produce for the hailstorm affected farmers in Jammu region saying that today’s heavy downpour has damaged various types of ready to be harvested standing crops.
Expressing his deep concern over the massive destruction caused to the standing crops across Jammu, Ch Manmohan said that the heavy hail and windstorm today dashed their hopes to ground especially in view of the fact that this year’s crop was a bumper crop and farmers were expecting to make good profit from all their previous losses now. He appealed to the Lt Governor to direct the concerned officers of the Agriculture and Revenue authorities to assess the quantum of losses so that volume of compensation and relief to be provided to the victim farmers could be worked out.
DDC Member from Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony also demanded compensation for the farmers whose paddy crop has been extensively damaged due to heavy rain and hailstorm in the border belt of Jammu and Samba districts. He regretted that even during 2019 hailstorm, the farmers of this border belt had suffered huge losses but J&K administration did not provide any compensation till date.
Daljit Singh, former Vice Chairman Kissan Board along with Manga Ram, BJP Jourian Mandal president and Ankush Choudhary Secretary BJP Kissan Morcha today visited different areas of Khour and Akhnoor Constituency to take stock of crop damaged due to untimely heavy rain and hailstorm. They visited to the fields and had interaction with the farmers who expressed their pain due to the huge losses of their crops. While speaking to the farmers they said that they will took up this matter with the concerned authorities for sanctioning of adequate compensation.
