JAMMU, July 25: BJP Member of Parliament & State President Jugal Kishore Sharma, while expressing his concern over incidents of unproved firing by Pakistan on borders, raised the issue in the Lok Sabha demanding that a clear policy need to be framed for the safety and provision of adequate compensation to the people affected by firing who live near borders in Akhnoor, Kathua, R.S. Pura, Rajouri and Poonch areas.
Mr Sharma said that Pakistan indulges in firing on borders which badly injures and even kills innocent civilians, causes loss to their houses, standing crops and cattle. Even despite cease fire and assurances of not to harm the civilian population, Pakistan often violate cease fire, indulge in unprovoked firing, which results into causalities.
He said that the people living on borders are from farming community and their survival totally depends on the produce of their agriculture but the firing from Pakistan creates problems in sowing crops and if crops are sown then also the standing crops are damaged.
Mr Sharma said that the border people have to leave their houses for the safety and security of their families and take refugee at other safer places and this has happened a number of times in the past and the Government has not taken their migration seriously and rather remained mute spectator.
Sharma demanded that both the Union Government and the State Government should chalk out a permanent policy aimed at ensuring their safety besides provision of insurance for all such border people who get affected by firing. He also demanded that the Government should make adequate arrangements at safer places for the stay of families of border people who are forced to leave their homes due to firing.
