KARGIl, Apr 7: To mark the anniversary of the demolition of Jannat al-Baqi, one of the oldest and holiest Islamic cemeteries located in Medina, Saudi Arabia, Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil (JUIAK) today organized a solemn protest.
The procession commenced after the noon prayers from the Isna Ashriya Compus, passed through the main market and concluded at Inqilab Manzil, Kargil.
The event drew significant participation from scholars, students and members of the local community who came together in a show of unity and reverence.
Mourners expressed their grief over the destruction of the sacred cemetery and called for the restoration of its sanctity.
Addressing the gathering, Hujjatul Islam Wal Muslimeen Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, president of JUIAK, termed the demolition a “monumental tragedy” and a “deliberate attempt to erase Islamic heritage.”
He condemned the Wahhabi ideology behind the destruction and urged the Saudi authorities to allow the reconstruction of the sacred tombs at Jannat al-Baqi.
“Rebuilding Jannat al-Baqi is not just a matter of architecture but of restoring the dignity, history and spiritual heritage of the Muslim Ummah,” he added.
Jannat al-Baqi, the resting place of several prominent figures of Islam, including members of the Prophet Muhammad’s family, was demolished twice, first in 1806 and again in 1925, by the Wahhabi-led regime under the House of Saud.
