JAMMU, Aug 9: The preparations for Jammu University’s 13th Convocation for conferring the Degrees to the candidates who have qualified for the award of Doctor of Philosophy and the Master of Philosophy, portraits a picture as to how grand function, it promises to be at varsity campus very shortly.
Scheduled to be held in the middle of September at the historical Zorawar Singh Auditorium in the University Campus, the Convocation, which as per custom should have been held 2 years back, is going to be held after the gap of over 5 years, as the 12th Convocation was held on May 13, 2007. For that mater, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor Jammu University, has initiated to preserve the custom of the University by ensuring the organization of the prestigious function in time, after being delayed, before his tenure.
“We are planning to organize the Convocation in the mid of September, 2012. However, nothing is final with regard to specific date of the function. We have framed various committees and are working on as to how to make the event a grand success,” said MPS Ishar while talking to Excelsior.
Anyway, if one goes into the philosophy of the Constitution of the committees for organizing the mega event, one gets a feeling that the organizers have nominated the conveners of the committees after very serious deliberations, as they possess almost all that is required to fulfill the needs of their respective committees.
A total of 26 committees have been formed to organize the event smoothly and successfully, with Vice Chancellor being the convener of the Convocation Core Committee, while Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs would convene the Sub-Committee to have liaison with the Conveners of the various committees. Prof Keshav Sharma would be the convener of the committee for cleanliness and beautification of the venue, while Prof Kuldeep Sharma would be heading the committee for furniture, furnishing and seating arrangements and Dr DL Choudhary, the committee for essential services. Prof Lokesh Verma and Prof Archana Kesar would manage the Ground floor hall maintenance and the Balcony hall maintenance and discipline committee respectively. Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Rector Kathua Campus, would be the convener of the press and publicity committee apart from being the head of the committee for issuance of badges and ID cards to staff, volunteers and participating students and scholars, while Dr Poonam Dhawan would be heading the committee for photographic and videographic coverage of the convocation. Apart from all these committees, many more committees have been framed to make the event a grand success.
Meanwhile, apart from conferring Degrees to PhD and MPhil qualifiers, the certificates of merit, medals and prizes would be awarded to the toppers of various examinations held by the University, during the Convocation.
In comparison to a total of 135 Ph D Degrees and 109 M Phil Degrees conferred to the candidates in the 12th Convocation in 2007, the number of the awardees would be much more this time.
One hopes the Convocation lives to its promise and commitment.
