JU’s Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel hosts heart health awareness session

JAMMU, May 29: The Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel at the University of Jammu today hosted an informative and interactive session on heart diseases, their causes, prevention, and treatment.
As per a statement, the event was led by Dr Nasir Choudhary, a renowned consultant cardiologist from GMC and SSH Jammu.
Guided by Prof Lalitsen Sharma, Provost Hostels (Boys), and supported by Dr Satyapriya and Dr Nitan Sharma, the hostel’s warden and resident warden respectively, the session aimed to educate hostel residents on critical aspects of heart health.
In his address, Dr Choudhary provided a comprehensive overview of heart diseases, discussing genetic predispositions, lifestyle choices such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption, as well as chronic conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity.
He emphasized the importance of a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
The cardiologist also highlighted the necessity of regular physical exercise, routine health screenings to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels, and effective stress management techniques such as meditation and yoga.
During the interactive question and answer session, Dr Choudhary addressed various queries from students, offering insights into the early warning signs of heart diseases and practical tips for maintaining heart health from a young age.
He underscored the importance of early intervention and regular medical check-ups in preventing severe heart conditions.
The session not only enhanced the students’ knowledge about heart diseases but also empowered them with practical tools to lead healthier lives.
Dr Nitan Sharma noted the significant impact of the interaction, as students expressed their gratitude for the valuable information and the opportunity to learn directly from a distinguished cardiologist.
