Justice Aradhe inaugurates sensitization prog on FSSA

SRINAGAR, Oct 14: State Judicial Academy in its endeavour to strengthen the judicial and administrative institutions and improve necessary skills and efficiency of all stakeholders of Justice Delivery System organized one day sensitization programme for Judicial Officers, Adjudicating Officers, Designated Officers under Food Safety Act, Food Inspectors on Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The sensitization programme was inaugurated by Justice Alok Aradhe, Chairman, J&K State Judicial Academy in the presence of Justice Hasnain Massodi, former Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Rashid Malik, Director, J&K State Judicial Academy, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Principal Secretary to Government, Health & Medical Education Department (Commissioner Food Safety), Mehmood Pracha (Advocate) Empanelled Lead Counsel of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Mohammad Yousuf Akhoon, Presiding Officer, Food Safety Appellate Tribunal.
Proceedings were conducted by Abdul Rashid Malik, Director, J&K State Judicial Academy.
In his address, Justice Alok Aradhe gave an overview of the sensitization programme and said that the sensitization programme intends to provide the relevant and practical insights about food safety, standards, food safety management systems and related legal provisions under both the Acts.
After this sensitization programme, the participants would attain a uniform pattern of effective compliance of Food Safety and Standards Act and Drugs and Cosmetics Act across the State by getting a detailed knowledge regarding the parameters and guidelines under the Acts. “The presence of the Judicial Officers in this programme further enhances its scope and importance as the presence of all stakeholders makes the deliberations inclusive and purposeful,” he added.
The working sessions of the sensitization programme were chaired by the Resource Person, Justice Hasnain Massodi, former Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir alongwith Abdul Rashid Malik, Director, J&K State Judicial Academy, Mehmood Pracha (Advocate) Empanelled Lead Counsel of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Mohammad Yousuf Akhoon, Presiding Officer, Food Safety Appellate Tribunal.
In the 1st session, overview and salient feature of the Food Safety and Standards Act. were discussed and deliberated upon.
In the technical Sessions the participants made presentations on implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. including the successes, failures, challenges and the way forward for the effective implementation of the Act.
