Justice Dattu is new CJI

NEW DELHI, Sept 28:
Justice H L Dattu today took over as 42nd Chief Justice of India.

Justice Dattu was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rastrapati Bhawan at 1100 hrs. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice-president Hamid Ansari, Cabinet ministers, senior leaders and Supreme Court judges, along with members of the Bar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not attend the function as he is on a five-day visit to the US. Justice Dattu will have 14 months tenure as CJI and will retire on December 2 next year.
Outgoing Chief Justice R M Lodha retired yesterday. (UNI)
