Justice J P Singh lays down his robes

JAMMU, Apr 5: Justice Jai Pal Singh today laid down his robes to demit the office on his superannuation in a simple way by walking out of office like normal days without opting for any traditional farewell from co-Judges, High Court staff as well as from Bar Association.
Justice Singh had conveyed about not taking any farewell to the Chief Justice and co-Judges last month besides Bar Association and High Court staff and the decision of Justice Singh was appreciated by Chief Justice and others.
Today, Justice Singh came to hold court as usual and after dealing with all cases listed before him laid down his robes in the open court, joined the advocates present in the court and went straightway to High Court Bar Room where he recollected all his practice days.
During the day, Justice Singh handed over his official car to High Court Protocol Office and in the evening left the office in his personal car.
Born at Kehli Mandi, Samba Jammu on April 6, 1951 Justice Singh did his LLB in 1971 and was enrolled as Pleader on September 15, 1971. He practised as an Advocate in State High Court on Civil, Criminal Constitutional and Taxation matters.
He was appointed as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel in 1987 and Senior Central Government Standing Counsel in 1996. He was elevated as Additional Judge of High Court on October 4, 2005 and appointed as permanent Judge on October 1, 2009.
During his tenure as High Court Judge, Justice JP Singh disposed of 21572 cases and delivered landmark judgments like 1200 MW Sawalkote Power Project, Karnail Singh first judgment of Mastajri Nama, misappropriation of dowry, first judgment on J&K Protections of Women Domestic Violence Act, 2010 and many others.
