JAMMU, Jan 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies Dedicated Backward Classes Commission, chaired by Justice (Retd) Janak Raj Kotwal and accompanied by its members – R K Bhagat and Prof M S Bhadwal visited Akhnoor, as a part of their outreach campaign and met stakeholders from different Panchayats, to assess the implications of Backwardness among OBCs in respect of direct elections to the local bodies.
The Commission was apprised by the delegations about the problems being faced by the OBC communities in getting representation in the local bodies and the circumstances that prevent them in getting elected to the rural local bodies.
The delegations expressed their concern about the absence of comprehensive census of the OBC classes so far and stressed that the OBC classes survey should be conducted in light of more castes that have been included in the list during 2024.
The Commission gave patient hearing to the views and grievances expressed by the delegations, and assured to accord consideration to their concerns.
