JAMMU, Dec 23: The Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of “Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan”, first Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir State and Chief Justice of India here today.
A function in this connection was held at Justice Mehar Chand Chowk, High Court Road, Jammu under the chairmanship of Vinod Kumar Gupta, president of the Sabha. Speaker, Legislative Assembly of J&K State, Kavinder Gupta, BJP State president & MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) and Jammu East MLA Rajesh Gupta were also present to pay homage to this great leader.
The function started with reciting of Gyatri Mantra and thereafter, all the dignitaries garlanded the portrait of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan.
Vinod Gupta highlighted the contributions of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan towards the Nation and particularly for the J&K State. He requested to Kavinder Gupta and other MLAs for installation of the statute of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan at this Chowk. The president of the Sabha also informed that Central Mahajan Sabha is already running a Charitable Hospital in Gandhi Nagar in the name of “Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan”. Kavinder Gupta assured that he will take all the initiative for the installation of statue to fulfill the aspirations of the community. The Speaker explained that it is his utmost desire to install a huge statue of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and he therefore requested Sat Sharma and Rajesh Gupta, to find out ways for this task.
Speaking on this occasion, State BJP chief Sat Sharma explained that Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan did not belong to Mahajan community only but represented all the communities. He announced that he will provide funds from his CDF for the installation of statue of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, Dr Sudesh Chander Gupta, senior vice president, Lala Amar Nath Gupta, chief patron and Amar Chand Gupta, patron of the Sabha and some other dignitaries spoke on this occasion.
A large number of people including women and children attended the function. Prominent among others included Ram Charan Gupta, Om Parkash Gupta, Krishan Lal Gupta, Bhushan Pargal, Satish Chander Gupta, Vijay Gupta, Pardeep Gupta, Chander Shekhar, Yashpal Gupta, Shiv Partap Gupta, Raghbir Gupta and Chander Mohan Gupta.
