JAMMU, Jan 18: Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor and the Chief Justice exchanged views on various important issues relating to making legal system more effective for meeting the aspirations of the people at large and their felt needs and demands.
P.L. Gupta, Chief Vigilance Commissioner also met Governor and briefed him about various important issues relating to the functioning of the Commission and the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Governor emphasized high importance of ensuring transparency in the functioning of the public institutions and role of institutions like Vigilance Commission and Anti-Corruption Bureau, to see that the corrupt elements are effectively dealt with.
Ashutosh Kumar Singh Rana, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Chandigarh Circle also met Governor and briefed him about SBI’s functioning in J&K, its future expansion plans and about the services which are being offered to SBI’s clients. He presented a copy of book titled “Flow-India through Water” conceived by Sunjoy Monga and supported by the SBIwhich highlights how harvesting and storing water in indigenously designed structures like step wells, ponds and embankments were a way of life in India.
Governor lauded the SBI’s role in providing reliable banking services to its customers and stressed the crucial role which must be played by the entire banking sector to promote all round growth and development in the country.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University briefed Governor about the progress achieved in the past months in the academic, administrative and infrastructural development arenas and the initiatives presently underway.
Governor emphasized the importance of ensuring that there was no gap whatsoever in the quality of teaching and stressed maintaining sharp focus on the implementation of relevant research projects.
A delegation of Kashmir Fruit Growers and Dealers Association, from Sopore led by its President F.A. Malik also met Governor and requested that the KCC loans of farmers be waived off on account of damage to the horticulture crops due to unexpected hailstorm; unhindered movement of fresh fruits outside the State be allowed; sanctioning of adequate funds for development of Fruit Mandi at Sopore; installation of High Mast Lights at Fruit Mandi Sopore and enroute from Sopore Bye-Pass to the Fruit Mandi; availability of quality pesticides and Tree Spray oils at genuine rates; construction of a fly over from Chakrodaykhan up to Hakim Sonaullah Hospital and Fruit Mandi; sanctioned railway track from Baramulla to Kupwara be routed from Amargarh Sopore station with a station in vicinity of Fruit Mandi; construction of a truck terminal at Tulball, Sopore and revival of juice plant at Doabgah.
Governor assured due consideration of their demands.
A delegation of the BJP Minority Morcha led by Haji Tariq Hussain Keen, Member of the State Executive Body of the Bharatiya Janata Party also met Governor.
The delegation submitted a Memorandum to Governor with the request for initiating various development projects for enhancing road connectivity, provision of quality healthcare, education and various other facilities in the Inderwal constituency.
Governor assured the delegation appropriate consideration of its demands.
Thakur Puran Singh, former MLA Billawar too met Governor and apprised him about several developmental issues of his area and congratulated Governor for conducting peaceful elections to the Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies.
Governor and Singh discussed significance of establishing Panchayats and ULBs at the grass root level for the overall development of the State.
