JAMMU, Mar 13: Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar today inaugurated a Model Legal Literacy Club at S.R.M.L. Higher Secondary School with the objective of disseminating the message of legal awareness and empowerment vis-à-vis rights and duties as enshrined in the Constitution.
Vinod Chatterji Koul, Chairman, DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu, R N Wattal, Member-Secretary, J&K SLSA, Principal of the School, Shafqat Chib along with SSP Jammu were present on the occasion.
Students of the school enrolled as members of the club and undertook to take up the topics as per the NALSA guidelines, 2018 for effectively ensuring that marginalized sections of the society have an access to justice.
Executive Chairman J&K SLSA impressed upon the objective of the Legal Literacy Club and the participation of the students at school level for the purpose of their empowerment and encouraging them to make others also aware of their legal rights and duties.
In compliance to the directions of National Legal Services Authority and J&K State Legal Services Authority, DLSA Jammu had undertaken outreach programmes by way of opening Legal Service Clinics and Legal Literacy Clubs in schools. On March 12, one Legal Literacy Club and two Legal Aid Clinics were also inaugurated by Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar, at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi, Government College for Women, Parade and at K.C Law College, Jammu respectively.
Executive Chairman J&K SLSA impressed upon the objective of the Legal Aid Clinics and the participation of the students at college level for the purpose of their empowerment and encouraging them to make others also aware of their legal rights and duties.
On the occasion, under the directions of the Executive Chairman J&K SLSA, a Campaign “Student Movement to Eradicate Drugs and Liquor Abuse” was also initiated.
Instructions were given to the teachers-in-charge, Secretary DLSA, Jammu and the PLVs/ Retainer Lawyers for working in coordination to identify the problems and redress of the same.
