LOS ANGELES, May 19: Singer-actor Justin Timberlake received seven Billboard Music Awards, taking home trophies for top artist, top billboard 200 artist and top billboard 200 album among others in a three-hour show at the MGM Grand Arena.
Imagine Dragons was right behind Timberlake, receiving five awards, with top hot 100 artist, top duo/group and top rock artist among their tally.
‘Blurred Lines’ earned Thicke, TI and Williams four trophies including top hot 100 song, top digital song, top radio song and top R&B song. Thicke performed his new single, ‘Get Her Back’ on the show.
Carrie Underwood won the milestone award whereas Jennifer Lopez was presented with the Icon award. Lopez delivered a passionate and emotional speech in accepting the recognition.
“I don’t know if I could have done it without you,” she said after receiving the award.
The awards ceremony featured the television world premieres of a Michael Jackson hologram and a Miranda Lambert-Carrie Underwood duet of ‘Somethin’ Bad’.
Lorde, who performed ‘Tennis Court’ on the telecast, was named top new artist and her song ‘Royals’ was crowned top rock song.
Other notable winners included Katy Perry (top female artist and top digital songs artist), Miley Cyrus (top streaming artist and top streaming song for ‘Wrecking Ball’) and Eminem (top rap artist and top rap album for MMLP2). (PTI)
