JAMMU, Oct 8: Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) staged a protest demonstration and flayed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA’s) decision for imposing property tax on houses and open lands of Jammu and Kashmir through municipalities.
Addressing protestors, JWAM president, Sunil Dimple said the people of Jammu and Kashmir are already paying heavy prices after the reorganisation of J&K State into two Union Territories. “Since the Union Government bifurcated the State into territories, it has been imposing taxes on people either in the form toll plazas or by others moves and now going to impose another taxes (property taxes),” Dimple said.
Dimple said that MHA has decided to impose the property tax by giving powers to Municipal Corporations, Councils and Committees in the entire J&K which is condemnable.
He urged upon the Prime Minister and Lieutenant Governor of J&K to withdraw these property taxes immediately otherwise they will start massive protest.
