JAMMU, Oct 25: J&K Shri Sad Guru Kabir Sabha in its meeting here today while discussing the outcome of recent High Court judgment on reservations in promotions has appealed the State Government that the same should not be implemented.
The meeting passed a resolution to this effect. It said the ban on reservations infringes upon the Constitutional rights of the depressed castes.
President of the Sabha said that Constitution of India is the religion of the depressed castes which provides the fundamental rights, equality before law, right to education, religion, worship and protects the various rights by which these depressed people can live an honorable and dignified life.
Mr Bhagat said that social stigma still prevails on these down trodden communities and it will be an injustice if they are deprived of the reservations as they are socially as well as economically backward.
Sabha also discussed the election of the president of the Sabha and other office bearers as their tenure has lapsed. An independent Election Cell headed by Prof Ashok Bhagat as chairman was constituted. Bushan Lal Bhagat, Bodh Raj, Jagdish Raj Arya, Babu Ram, Dr K C Bhagat, G L Bhagat, Sat Pal Bhagat and Bishan Bhagat were nominated as its members.
