RAJOURI, Sept 17: On the occasion of Golden Jubilee of Battle Honour ‘Kalidhar’, 6th Battalion the Sikh Light Infantry remembered the martyrs of the1965 war.
The unit has commenced the Golden Jubilee celebrations of  the Battle Honour Day ‘Kalidhar’ by organizing the wreath laying at Kalidhar War Memorial located at Sunderbani by Col Vijay Hooda, CO,  6th Battalion the Sikh Light Infantry and Subedar Major Jaswant Singh.
The war memorial is located at the base of  Kalidhar feature which was constructed by 6th Battalion the Sikh Light Infantry in remembrance of the martyrs who laid down their lives while capturing the Kalidhar range  from Pakistan troops during the 1965 war.
In 1965 Indo- Pak war in J&K, the unit distinguished itself in the heroic defence of Chhamb and the capture of Kalidhar feature. In this operation for its heroic action, 6 SIKH LI was awarded Battle Honour ‘KALIDHAR’ and Theatre Honour ‘J&K’. The then CO, Lt Col PK Nandagopal was awarded the coveted Maha Vir Chakra (MVC).
