Kamaal dismisses rigging allegations

JAMMU, Aug 6: Senior National Conference leader and former Minister Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal has castigated the allegation of RC Bali, chairman Sewa Dal NCP that 1987 elections to the State Assembly were “rigged” by Dr Farooq Abdullah calling it a warn out lie by the detractors of National Conference.
Reacting to the statement Dr Kamaal said that elections to State Assembly are not conducted by Chief Minister or individuals but are conducted by the Election Commission of India and such complaints/ allegations are dealt by the independent body and courts have also jurisdiction to decide such cases, if any. The case in point is the unseating of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in early seventees by a court of Allahabad when election malpractice against her in the Lok Sabha election was proved.
Both these powerful institutions have given clean chit to the 1987 elections to the J&K Legislative Assembly. Thus, RC Bali’s allegations are not only a worn out lie but a white lie.
