WELLINGTON: New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson on Monday was rushed to a hospital following a shoulder injury during the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Basin Reserve here.
He was taken to hospital for scans on his left shoulder with a team spokesman describing it as a “precautionary” measure.
The New Zealand board took to twitter to inform about the skipper’s injury, “Injury update: Kane Williamson will not return to the field today as he rests his left shoulder ahead of further investigation (MRI scan) tomorrow morning. Tim Southee is the on-field captain,” the tweet read.
Williamson suffered a left shoulder injury while diving in the field during Bangladesh’s first innings on Sunday. However, he came to bat and scored his 30th Test half-century. During his 74 runs innings, he got medical attention twice.
The first two days were washed out, but clean weather is forecast for the remainder days.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 211 runs in the first inning. In reply, the Kiwi team posted 432 runs for 6 wickets (declared).
At stumps, on day four, Bangladesh were 80 for 3 in their second innings, still trailing NZ by 141 runs with one day left in the Test.
New Zealand are leading the three-match series with 1-0.
