REASI, Feb 12: As a tribute to martyr of District Reasi, Kanthan to Sawlakote road has been renamed as Shaheed HC Gulab Singh Road.
This has been done in pursuance to the directions of the Government which has taken a unique initiative of paying tributes to the martyrs by naming the Government schools, colleges, roads etc in their names.
During an impressive function in this regard at Kanthan today, which was also graced by parents of the martyr, Chairman DDC Reasi Saraf Singh Nag, DC Reasi Charandeep Singh, SSP Reasi Shailender Singh, ADC Abdul Star, DDC Member, Sarpanches and Panches paid rich tribute to the martyr. The formal ceremony started with unveiling of signage followed by floral tribute to the martyr.
On this occasion, local students gave an emotional tribute to HC Gulab Singh by presenting an enthralling and scintillating theatrical performance, which further aroused emotional feelings and filled audience with pride.
While addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Charandeep Singh said that it is a wonderful initiative by the Government through which our present and coming generations will learn about the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs and will nurture a feeling of patriotism among the citizens. He also emphasized on the need to celebrate such events every year in the honour of martyrs so that it always remains etched in generating memory.
Chairman DDC also narrated his association with the martyr, who was a true gentleman always ready to sacrifice his life for dignity and integrity of nation.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Reasi said that the Police Department shall always remain indebted to martyr Gulab Singh and assured all possible support to his family.
