JAMMU, Oct 19: Former Union Minister, Dr Karan Singh gave a lecture on Shrimad Bhagwad Gita at Central Sanskrit University here today.
Dr Karan Singh who was the chief guest of the programme, also presented his multi-volume book on Shrimad Bhagwad Gita. The programme began with Vedic Mantras by Dr Anay Mani Tripathi, Assistant Professor in Ved Department of Central Sanskrit University.
Former Minister and Pradesh BJP vice president, Sham Lal was also present as guest of honour. Dr Karan Singh delivered lecture on Shrimad Bhagwad Gita and began with Shloka of Shiv Manus Puja Stotar. He enlightened the audience with his deep knowledge of the `Sacred Book’, displaying scholarly command over the subject.
Dr Karan Singh also shared his experiences of earlier days when he was the Member of Parliament in Indira Gandhi Government. Local people, students and teachers of the campus were enthralled by his knowledge on the Subject. He also motivated the people to read Upanishads and held that there is a need to preserve the Shlokas of Upanishads. He called Shrimad Bhagwad Gita a ‘Sangarsh-Shastra’ which teaches humans different kinds of struggle. He also related and compared the struggle with the present situation of the world.
Vice Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Prof Shrinivas Verkhedi who presided over the function also commented on the importance of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita.
Former Minister, Ajatshatru Singh and his wife Ritu Singh were also present on the occasion.
Director of the campus Prof Madan Mohan Jha presented the formal welcome address and showed his gratitude towards chief guest on his arrival. Prof and Director of the campus Madan Mohan Jha and Dr Yogendra Dixit, Assistant Professor in Political Science were also honoured for their receiving Maiden Shiksha Shrih Samman, which included seed money of Rs 50000 and a citation under Kulapati Puraskar Yojana . They were also awarded the token money of Rs 5100 on behalf of the campus.
Prof Satish Kapoor presented a formal vote of thanks. Dr Madan Jha conducted the program.
