Soha Ali Khan is detoxing these days post a hectic wedding schedule of her brother Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. She is also looking forward to the India release of her film Midnight’s Children in December. Sreya Basu in conversation with the actor at the launch of Hue Fashion’s new collection at Inox in Mumbai
Now that Kareena Kapoor has officially become your sister-in-law, what are the changes you are seeing in her?
I haven’t seen any such changes so far. She is what she always has been … very sweet.
Do you spend time with her?
I have actually spent a lot of time with her recently during the wedding preparations and the wedding. We had lots of fun at the ceremonies. As everyone knows, it was a very small affair that was attended by only close friends. But we had a week-long celebration and we all are still reeling from that and now looking at getting back to work.
What have you gifted her on her wedding?
I have given them both (Kareena and brother Saif Ali Khan) a wedding gift but I don’t want to disclose it.
When are you getting married?
(Laughs) After Saif’s wedding, we all need a break. And people keep forgetting that I have an elder sister (Saba Ali Khan). So people need to keep their focus on her and not on me.
Still, what will you like to wear on your wedding?
I haven’t really thought about it but let’s see. There are so many different functions when it comes to an Indian wedding I think it’s nice to have a different silhouette for each function. For the mehendi ceremony, I would like to wear a lehenga, for my actual wedding function I would go for a gharara because it is very traditional and I like ghararas; and may be a saree for the reception.
Do you prefer to wear Western over Indian wear?
I like to experiment and am comfortable in both (Indian and Western wear). I like wearing dresses and gowns but while dressing up for traditional functions I like to go for outfits that are appropriate and bright and colourful for such occasions.
What do you have to say about the changing face of Indian fashion?
What I love about Indian fashion is that they have so many different silhouettes for women … whether it’s a Churidar (suit) or a Patiala (suit) or Anarkali (suit) or a saree. However, I always prefer light-weight outfits because I want to dance and enjoy myself on such occasions.
What is your favourite Indian outfit?
Saree is really one of my favourites because I think any woman looks elegant and gorgeous in a saree.
What’s your favourite colour?
Purple is my favourite colour.
What’s happening career-wise?
I have completed shooting for Chaarfutiya Chhokare. I am doing Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.
Do you feel Midnight’s Children should get an India release?
I do hope Midnight’s Children gets an India release. But I can’t say for sure.
Who is your favourite actor?
My favourite actor has always been Aamir Khan and I was really honoured to have got an opportunity to work with him (in Rang De Basanti in 2006). He is so easy-to-approach despite being such an established actor that it was overwhelming. Every scene he does, he does it so differently that he becomes that character. (TWF)
