Kargil gets mega cultural centre

KARGIL, July 31: In a gesture that would give a major fillip to cultural activities in Ladakh region of the State, LAHDC, Kargil, today dedicated a mega cultural centre to J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL).
Constructed at a cost of rupees two crore, the language centre at Kargil was formally handed over to the Academy by Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Haji Mohammed Hanifa Jan in presence of Executive Councilors and senior citizens of the area.
Secretary, JKAACL, Dr Aziz Hajini, who was present on the occasion, took over the possession of the cultural complex.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, highlighted the importance of the language centre and said that it would serve as an ideal meeting point for the local poets, writers and intellectuals.
Jan hoped that the language centre would facilitate interaction between intellectuals of different languages and dialects. He also assured full support of LAHDC Kargil to the JKAACL for promotion and preservation of cultural heritage of Kargil area.
Besides senior functionaries of LAHDC, Kargil, a large number of writers and intellectuals were also present at the function.
