Kargil-like situation will not be allowed again: Northern Army Commander

 

KARGIL:  Reiterating that Kargil war-like situation will not be allowed to happen again, General Officer Commander in Chief, Northern Command, Lt General Devraj Anbu today said troops are totally prepared to meet any eventuality.

   “We are trying to resolve the issue on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Borders in Ladakh,” Lt Gen Anbu told reporters after paying homage to martyrs who laid down their lives during 1990 Kargil war to push back the Pakistani intruders who had occupied major heights in the district on Line of Control (LoC).

   The chief of the Northern Command said security forces are on high alert to foil any infiltration bid on the LoC, including in Kargil and Drass sectors in Ladakh region.

   “Our troops are well prepared and alert to meet any eventuality, he said, adding the Kargil-like situation would not be allowed to happen again.

   About the overall security situation in the Valley, Lt Gen Anbu said Army and other security agencies are working in close coordination to carry out anti militancy operations.

     He said because of the close coordination, security forces eliminated 36 militants, including some self-styled commander in the Valley during the past three months.

   Alert troops also foiled a number of infiltration attempt from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), he said adding scores of militants were gunned down immediately after they sneaked into this side this year.

    Large number of trained militants are waiting in launch pads near LoC in PoK to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall.

     Lt Gen Anbu said the relation between the people in Kashmir and Indian Army is strengthening day by day as result of which more than 14,500 students are getting education in 45 Army Goodwill Schools all over Jammu and Kashmir.

    This has helped more than 1,000 local youths to get employment.

    “Without naming China, he said the LAC in the Western Ladakh is disputed and is not demarked yet. We we are trying to resolve this issue at every level,” he said.

      Lt Gen Anbu along with GOC 14th Crops PJS Pannu and all ranks paid tribute to the martyrs and laid wreath at the Drass war memorial. He also interacted with Jawans, Veer Naris, and war heroes. (AGENCIES)
