LEH, June 18: Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) today observed complete shutdown of the Government offices including schools remained closed.
EJAC has called the protest demanding Special Duty Allowance for Ladakhi employees on the basis of recommendations of 6th Pay Commission and office memorandum issued by Ministry of Finance GoI, pay anomaly, regularization of daily wagers and Anganwadi workers’ pay related issues.
Talking to media persons, EJAC Secretary Wilayat Ali Mir said that they are struggling for last seven years demanding settlement of the issues of the employees but unfortunately there is cold response from the Government side.
Rejecting Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu’s statement in Assembly that Ladakhi employees are getting “Border allowance and Compensatory allowance” already, Mir said that no doubt the employees are getting compensatory allowance that too less than one percent of the basic pay and no “Border allowance” are being paid for the employees in Ladakh region but the employees are demanding SDA on the basis of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission and Office Memorandum issued by Ministry of Finance GoI.
“Central Government employees posted in Ladakh are already enjoying chain of allowances like Tribal Area Allowance, Special Duty Allowance, Bad climate allowance, etc” Mir said, adding that EJAC has framed a committee namely Ladakh Regional Action Committee to carry forward the issue of reservation in promotion and other related issues. In the committee, political and social leaders from both Leh and Kargil districts are representatives. The organization has already staged protests in Leh, Kargil and Jammu on reservation issues, he added.
The issues of employees could be a challengeable issue for the ruling parties in Ladakh region if they will not consider on their demands particularly reservation and Special Duty Allowance.
