Addressing reporters at the party headquarters here in Srinagar after speaking to party workers and leaders, the JKPCC chief said that the party gathering was organized to remind the Centre of its promises to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
“We have gathered here to remind the Centre, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, about their promise of restoring statehood, which they made on the floor of the House,” he said.
Karra emphasized that the beginning of the winter session provides an opportunity to address the issue and called on the government to act decisively.
“As the winter session of Parliament begins today, we want to convey the aspirations and emotions of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the Home Minister and Prime Minister. You have repeatedly promised statehood both inside and outside Parliament. On September 19, especially, you promised in Srinagar that statehood would be restored as soon as possible. However, we have seen no progress so far,” he said.
Karra also accused the Centre of ignoring the demands of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress is raising its voice to convey this message to those who have so far acted deaf and blind to the region’s concerns. Their overlooking the issue will not work for long,” he said.
He further criticized the Centre for delaying action despite the Supreme Court’s directions. “If you are unwilling to restore statehood on moral grounds, at least respect the Supreme Court’s directions. The court has instructed you to conduct elections and restore statehood. It is your duty to uphold the court’s directives,” Karra added.
