JAMMU, July 6: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Jammu Dr Harbaksh Singh being the District Appropriate Authority, PC&PNDT Act, 1994 today sealed Karuna Ultrasound Centre situated at Guran Ditta Mal Eye Hospital building, Kachi Chhawani, here for conducting sex determination tests.
The CMO Jammu along with other officers and officials paid a visit to Karuna Ultrasound Centre on receiving information from a joint team comprising District Appropriate Authority cum Civil Surgeon, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana and Pathankot (Punjab) which conducted a decoy operation under PC&PNDT Act, 1994 in the Ultrasound Centre.
During on-spot enquiry of Karuna Ultrasound Centre, verbal and written statements of three patients and evidences gathered, it was found by the CMO Jammu that the allegations made against the Ultrasound Centre were not deprived of weightage.
The visiting team led by CMO Jammu also recovered an amount of Rs 20,000 from the chest of the table of the Ultrasound Centre which was handed over by the decoy to the tout for conducting sex determination.
“We have sealed the Karuna Ultrasound Centre for conducting sex determination tests and further investigation into the matter shall be carried out as per the applicable Act and rules framed there under,” said Dr Harbaksh Singh.
