SRINAGAR, Sept 19: A day after 18 army men were killed and around 17 injured in a deadly attack on an army base in Uri and amidst growing tension between India and Pakistan, the bus service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, known as Karvan-e-Aman, operated today.
Ten people from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) including three fresh travelers arrived from Muzaffarabad to Srinagar, but only eight people including five PoK residents travelled from Srinagar to Muzaffarabad.
Escorted by heavy convoy of security forces, the bus crossed the Uri Brigade this morning. The State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC)-owned bus headed for Muzaffarabad, was the only civilian vehicle to be allowed to pass through Uri town after yesterday’s attack.
Mohammad Owais, 42 of Muzaffarabad who had come 15 days ago was to stay back for 15 more days but left today, a day after the attack. “I had to stay for 15 more days but due to tension I am going back today. The attack that took place yesterday is bad as it leads to more tension and derails peace. These attacks should not happen whether here (India) or there (Pakistan),” he said.
