Kashmir has much more to show than violence: Filmmaker

SRINAGAR, May 17: Filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali, today asked the media students to move outside State to find an opportunity in film industry.
Ali said this while interacting with media students, faculty members besides media personnel at University of Kashmir this afternoon.
The young director and writer said that he had never been to any media school to achieve formal education in the field, but inspired the youth audience that they being professionally trained in media school at KU have better chances to go ahead.
“There is no concept of godfather in film industry, only you should have a good story to tell and then to put into art,” Ali said.
Showering praise for beauty of Kashmir and humble nature of the people, Ali said; “When I saw Kashmir before Rock star film shooting, I was impressed by the culture and tradition apart from scenic beauty of Kashmir.”
The director said: “Kashmir is treated as jewel in country, it has a special place in country, but it is represented very little and I do share your sentiment that it has not been completely and accurately described. There have been films on Kashmir, but there is much more than what has been shown.”
Ali said most of the films on Kashmir have been on the violence that was prevalent in the State in the last two decades. “I do not have the numbers but I think there have been a lot of stories on violence in Kashmir. But there is much more to show in Kashmir than violence,” he said.
Ali who is currently shooting his new film Highway here said that apart from being most beautiful place, Kashmir is the most sophisticated society.
“I feel more pressure when I am shooting here as I keep on thinking that I better do justice to this place,” he added.
Speaking about his presently shooting movie “Highway”, Ali said that the film was about a girl who goes on an unusual journey with a man, after some time there journey changes, which reflects like the real story in the movie. “The Highway is being filmed in mountainous areas of Kashmir where Gujjars and Bakerwals live,” he said.
Earlier, Prof Nasir Mirza said that the young film director has created niche in overcrowded Bollywood  due to his creativity and hard work and Mirza asked the young media students to learn from his inspirations.
