Kashmir highway through despite fresh snowfall

SRINAGAR : The national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for one-way traffic despite fresh snowfall at several places this morning.

Traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar and no down vehicle will be allowed today, a traffic police official told UNI here.   He said there was fresh snowfall on both sides of the Jawahar tunnel, Banihal and Qazigud this morning. However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintainance of the highway immediately cleared the snow and the highway was through, he said.

Hundreds of vehicles today left different parts of the Jammu, including Nagrota, Udhampur and Batote for Kashmir valley. The vehicles included trucks loaded with essentials for the summer capital.

He said only one-way traffic will continue till further orders to avoid traffic jam and any accident on the highway.   Meanwhile, the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and Mughal road remained closed due to slippery road conditions and accumulation of snow.
