SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Despite fresh snowfall, the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country remained through for one-way from Srinagar to Jammu today.
Meanwhile, dozens of villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) remained cut off from their respective district and tehsil headquarters due to heavy snowfall. Official sources said few inches of fresh snowfall was experienced on both sides of the Jawahar tunnel, Shaitan Nallah and Banihal area overnight. However, the highway remained opened as hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers and empty trucks and oil tankers left different parts of the Kashmir valley, particularly Qazigund for Jammu this morning.
However, no vehicle was allowed from Jammu to Kashmir, they said adding only one-way traffic will continue on the highway till further orders.
It was snowing at the tunnel area since early this morning, they said adding rain was recorded between Ramban and Ramsu
Meanwhile, the national highway connecting the Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley remained closed due to snowfall and slippery road conditions prevail since December last year.
The Mughal road connecting south Kashmir with Jammu region also remained closed due to slippery road conditions and snowfall at several places.
Dozens of village, including near the LoC in Machil, Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar, Gurez, Teetwal and Neeru also remained cut off due to heavy snowfall. Moderate to fresh snowfall was recorded since last evening at Sadhana and Razdan passes and Z-Gali in Kupwara.
