Kashmir highway open despite fresh snowfall, rains

SRINAGAR : The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country remained open despite fresh snowfall and rains at several places since early this morning.
The highway was open and today traffic was plying from Srinagar to Jammu, a traffic police spokesman said.
He said several inches of fresh snowfall was recorded at Jawahar tunnel, Shaitan Nallah and Banihal since early this  morning.
However, this has not affected the traffic movement as hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers left different parts of the Kashmir valley for Jammu.
Majority of vehicles have already crossed the tunnel area, he said adding there was rain at Ramban and Ramsu area.
Only one way traffic plying on the highway since December last year will continue till further orders, official sources said adding that two way traffic will be allowed only when there is further improvement in the weather and road condition. This, they said, has been done to avoid traffic jam and accidents on the highway. (AGENCIES)
