SRINAGAR : The national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, remained open for one-way and traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar today.
Traffic on the highway was suspended yesterday in the afternoon following landslides and shooting, triggered by heavy rains at Penthal. Hundreds of vehicles, which had left Jammu in the morning, got stranded.
However, traffic resumed after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway, pressed into service sophisticated machines and men and finally put through the traffic at 1800 hrs.
Though a large number of vehicles passed the Penthal till late in the night, some vehicles got stranded which were allowed to move towards Srinagar this morning.
However, no fresh vehicle was allowed from Jammu today, official sources said adding today vehicles were allowed from Srinagar to Jammu.
Only one-way traffic is allowed on the highway since December to avoid any traffic jam or accident. One-way traffic will continue till further orders, they said. (AGENCIES)
