SRINAGAR : The national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for one-way traffic despite heavy rains.
However, roads to areas near the Line of Control (LoC), other far-flung and remote areas besides the Srinagar-Leh National Highway remained closed due to accumulation of snow.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying essentials, and passengers left Jammu this morning despite rains at several places on the highway.
No vehicle was allowed from Srinagar to Jammu today because of one-way traffic going on the highway since December 15 last year to avoid any traffic jam or accident.
Tomorrow traffic will ply from here to Jammu subject to road conditions, officials said.
However, the roads to far-flung and remote areas, including those near the LoC remained closed due to accumulation of snow.
The authorities had been arranging helicopter service for the people cut off from Keran, Karnah, Teetwal, Machil, Dawar and Neeru during winter.
The national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, remained closed since December last year due to ten to 15 feet of snow accumulated at Zojila and other places. However, the Centre and state governments have agreed to construct a tunnel at Zojila to make it an all weather road.
