SRINAGAR: Two-way light vehicular traffic continued on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir with rest of the country, though heavy vehicles will ply only from one-way.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying essentials besides passengers, left Jammu for Kashmir this morning as only one-way heavy vehicular traffic will continue on the highway.
Meanwhile, Razdan pass, connecting border town of Gurez with district headquarters, besides historic Mughal road remained closed due to accumulation of snow and slippery road condition. The 434-km-long Leh-Srinagar national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir, also remained closed.
“We have allowed light vehicular traffic from both sides on 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway,” a traffic official said.
However, he said movement of passenger and light motor vehicles coming from Jammu have to pass Nagrota between 0600 hrs and 1000 hrs and Udhampur upto 1100 hrs.
Similarly, he said vehicles coming from Srinagar have to pass Levdora in Qazigund between 0700 hrs and 1400 hrs. “No vehicle will be allowed to cross these locations after the designated time,” he said.
“No Jammu-bound vehicle will be allowed from Pantha Chowk in Srinagar after 1200 hrs to avoid congestion on the highway,” he added. He said heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar on Sunday.
“No movement of load carriers and convoys of Army, and other security force agencies will be from Srinagar to Jammu,” he added. He said hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying essentials, particularly fresh vegetables, left Jammu for Kashmir this morning.
The Ladakh region remained cut off from the Kashmir valley due to closure of the national highway due to accumulation of several feet of snow.
The border town of Gurez, surrounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from three sides, also remained cut-off from the district headquarters Bandipora due to slippery road conditions.
The historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region in Jammu also remained closed due to accumulation of several feet of snow, he added. (AGENCIES)
