Kashmir is core issue between India and Pakistan, says Pak envoy

NEW DELHI, Dec 12: Expressing hope of a positive outcome of a comprehensive dialogue to be resumed between two countries, Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit today said Kashmir is the core issue between India and Pakistan.

Speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak, Mr Basit also expressed happiness over the resumption of talks between India and Pakistan but said the main issue between the two countries was Kashmir.

“No solution will be acceptable if it is not acceptable to Kashmiri first”, Mr Basit said. He also refuted the charges that Pakistan was encouraging terrorism from across the border in Kashmir and said that his country was itself a victim of terrorism.

“There are no terror camps in Pakistan and I am absolutely sure on this. Pakistan is too a victim of terrorism and have suffered a lot of damage due to it”, he said.

Admitting that Mumbai 26/11 attacks was an issue, he said, “We are working on this so that we can reach a closure”.

Expressing hope that talks would continue in future as well, he said, “We have decided that the talks will continue”.

He also favoured resumption of Indo-Pak cricket series and said,”Pakistan has given clearance to cricket series with India and waiting for Indian Government response”.
