JAMMU, Mar 19: ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’, the fifth play of the ongoing Festival of the Plays 2020-2021 J&K Bhoomi Human Welfare Society staged a Kashmiri Play ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’ at Abhinav Theatre here today.
Written by Captain Maharaj, the play-true to its title based on Mohammad Iqbal’s famous verse ‘Saare jahan se Accha Hai Hindostan Hamara, Hum Bulblein HaIn Is ki yeh Gulstan Hamara’-came out as an ode to patriotism, communal harmony and brotherhood that characterize Bharat.
The play is woven around the family of Arjan dev, an elderly migrant Kashmiri Pandit. Exasperated at the moral degradation in the society, especially the politicians, he is always yearning for Kashmir, his motherland and all his friends, and acquaintances. The visit of his friend Farooq from Kashmir comes as glad tidings to Arjan Dev who having unwavering faith in age-old values of mutual respect, brotherhood decides to return back to Kashmir.
The play directed by Jatinder Jotshi, high on idealistic content despite few technical shortcomings managed to strike a chord with the Kashmir audience. Who enjoyed the dialogues and the way the cast, especially senior actors namely JK Koul (Baizaan) as Farooq, Captain Maharaj as Arjan Dev created the ambience which brought forth the pain of being forced out of one’s home and hearth as well as longing to go back Kashmir. Other actors who also gave good performances were Bharti Zaroo as Habla, Vinay Pandita as Ashok, Daizy Bazaz as Janaki, Rahul Pandita as Jameel, Priyanka Pandiota as seema, Ajay Waguzari as Nath ji, Vijay Raina as Sardar ji, Ravi Kumar Dhar as Militant 1, Mohit Rawal as Militant 2.
Background voice was by Kamal Razdan, music by Anmol Raj, playback singing by Sunita Bhat, costumes by Susheel Bhat, sets by Kamal Saagar and make-up by Rahu/Daizy.
