JAMMU: There were protests in Rajouri district while Bhaderwah town of Doda district observed partial shutdown over Kashmir unrest, police here today said.
”A group of youths representing a political outfit this morning assembled outside Idgah and staged protest over prevailing Kashmir situation,” a senior police officer here said.
He said that the protestors raised slogans and later dispersed. No violence was reported.
Meanwhile, members of a particular community observed shutdown to express solidarity with Kashmir situation.
”There was no violence or any untoward incident was reported from across the Bhaderwah town during the shutdown,” said a police officer. He added that the bandh was completely peaceful while the protestors expressed resentment over civilian killings by the security forces in the Kashmir Valley.
”Shops and business establishments and some private schools remained closed while the government schools and banks were functioning normally,” he added and said that traffic is plying as usual on the highway.
”Protest was lodged by the members in support of Kashmiri people and also to lodge resentment against the state government for failing to safeguard human rights of a common man in the Valley,” said a protestor.
Protests erupted in the Kashmir Valley on July 8 after Hizb militant Burhan Wani was killed by the security forces in an encounter in Pulwama.
However, around 50 people have died and thousands got injured in the clashes.
