Srinagar, Dec 3: Kashmiri migrants employed under Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation Package today staged a protest at Sheikhpora in Budgam against the Government for what they called failing to address their grievances.
The protesting migrants sat outside their residential quarters along with their homely possessions, threatening they would return back to Jammu if their demands were not addressed swiftly.
Ajay Safaya, a protestor, said 1,452 Kashmiri migrants were employed in 2010 under the Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation Package, and were accommodated in eight migrant colonies across the Valley.
“But, the State Government has failed to implement the rehabilitation package. Three persons are accommodated in a single room. In some quarters, two families are living together due to which there is no privacy between the families. We were promised spacious accommodation, but those promises were not fulfilled,” Safaya said.
Safaya also alleged their salaries were not being released on time by the respective departments they work in which creates hurdles in running their Kitchens.
R K Pandita, Relief Commissioner said they were working to decongest the residential quarters very soon.
“Their salaries are released on time, but the concerned departments delay it. The department heads may have certain issues related to the release of their salaries. Still if they have any such grievances then they should contact us,” he said.
