Kashmiri surgeon attends Int’l Surgery Congress in S Korea

SRINAGAR, Mar 26: A senior doctor from the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla’s Department of General & Minimal Access Surgery has attended the 60th Annual Congress of the Korean Association of Hepato-Biliary Pancreatic Surgery (KAHBP) held in South Korea.
Officials informed ‘Excelsior’ that Dr. Afak Yusuf Sherwani, Senior Consultant of the department, was invited to speak and moderate sessions at the prestigious event held at Grand Walkerhill, Seoul, South Korea on March 20 this year.
“Dr. Sherwani delivered a lecture during the Bilio-Pancreatic Symposium I and moderated the Bilio-Pancreatic Symposium III, focusing on various laparoscopic procedures related to gallbladder diseases,” officials said.
The international conference brought together 745 surgeons from 48 countries, including renowned experts in the field of Hepato-Biliary Pancreatic (HBP) surgery.
As one of the surgeons representing India, Dr. Sherwani showcased his expertise by participating as a speaker and moderator in scientific sessions of the conference.
Officials emphasized that this achievement underscores the dedication and excellence of the surgical department at GMC Baramulla, under the leadership of Dr. Hakeem Vaqar, Head of the Department of Surgery.
Principal GMC Baramulla, Prof. Dr. Ruby Reshi, and the Medical Superintendent of the associated hospital GMC Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Department of Surgery for this remarkable achievement on an international platform.
