Kathua farmers’ demands projected with Azad

KATHUA, Mar 9: Carrying on its objective of service towards the public, a deputation of Congress activists under the leadership of District President Congress, Kathua former MLC Subash Gupta met with Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha & former Chief Minister of  Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad, at Delhi.
Subash Gupta highlighted the issue of eviction of farmers from State land and other problems of the border people.
He said that the farmers especially those residing across the zero line had been facing number of hardships due to the wrong policies of present Government. He added that after the partition of India and Pakistan the people of Jammu converted barren land into agricultural land by spending huge amount of money and hard labour. He added that 90% of the farmers are cultivating the State land and are earning bread and butter from such a land.
“The Government had already acquired thousands Kanals of agricultural land from farmers under Government sponsored schemes like construction of roads, fencing across the border, construction of bunkers and ditches across the border, the compensation of which is still pending,” he added.
Subash Gupta further said that presently farmers had initiated protest demonstration against the Government under the banner of Border Welfare Committee and their demands are quite geniue.
Subash Gupta said that before sending the eviction notices to the farmers the Government should gear up Roshni Act in favour of the farmers. He also said that during the process of filing applications for Roshni Act many farmers could not avail the benefit as the time period was too short. So the Government should give an opportunity to file applications.
He also appealed Ghulam Nabi Azad for taking necessary steps to address the geniue demands of farmers. After listening to the demands and hardships of the farmers and border hamlet people Azad assured of taking the matter seriously.
Yugal Kishore Bali, Advocate Vinay Sharma, Harbhajan Singh Saini, Nariender Rathore, and Bhagwan Dass were also part of deputation.
