KATHUA Mar 11: Kathua Police claimed of arresting a rape accused within 12 hours of the crime committed by him in Lakhanpur area yesterday.
Giving full credit for prompt action to the police, SSP Kathua, S K Mishra along with Additional SP, R K Gupta told reporters here, today that it was with the prompt action of the police that it succeeded to nab the accused.

He said accused namely Rattan Dev, S/o Tuney Kumar of Khagriya, Bihar who was presently residing in Industrial area Maroli, Kathua and was known to the victim’s family.
He said that police after receiving complaint about rape of minor girl yesterday immediately swung into action and constituted various teams to arrest the accused by laying nakas at all escape routes. Drones and sniffer dogs were also pressed for the purpose, he added.
SSP said alert was also sounded in neighboring areas of Punjab and Samba. The photographs of accused were shared and circulated at all Railway Stations and Bus Stands. In late hours of the same day police succeeded in arresting the accused from the neighboring area of Maggar Khad, Kathua with the help of intelligence gathered and support of the locals especially persons of Gujjar community, he added.
In this regard a case FIR No.22/2020 U/S 376/452 IPC, 4 POCSO Act was registered at Police Station Lakhanpur. The further investigation is in progress which is being carried out by the SHO under the close supervision of senior officers. Swift action by the police in arresting the accused was appreciated by civil society, the SSP added.
