Kathua police foils bovine smuggling bid, rescues 14 animals

KATHUA, Nov 7: Tightening the noose of bovine smugglers within the district, J&K Police Kathua under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, Shobhit Saksena today rescued 14 bovines at Truck Terminal Lakhanpur area and seized one vehicle (Oil Tanker) involved.
Police said a team of Police Station (PS) Lakhanpur during naka/ checking duty near Truck Terminal Lakhanpur area noticed the movement of one suspicious vehicle (Oil Tanker) bearing Registration No. JK03E-5451 which was being driven by an unknown person who was enrouted from Punjab side towards Srinagar. He was signaled to stop for checking. On seeing naka party the driver stopped the vehicle few meters away from Naka point and managed to flee away.
Police said during checking of the vehicle, 14 bovines were found loaded in the vehicle mercilessly which were rescued and the Oil Tanker was seized on the spot. Thereafter all the 14 bovines (6 Cows & 8 Oxen) were rescued and the vehicle involved in bovine smuggling was seized.
A case has been registered at PS Lakhanpur vide FIR No. 119/2024 U/S 223/BNS, 11/PCA Act while further investigation into this matter has been set into motion.
Police said overall 14 bovines (6 cows and 8 oxen) were rescued and one vehicle was seized as well. The police naka was conducted under the supervision of SHO PS Lakhanpur under the supervision of DySP DAR Kathua.
